Intro to Applescript

Let’s Get Started

▸Navigate to the Applications/Utilities folder (Cmd Shift + U) and open the application Script Editor.

▸Take a look at the elements. Hover over buttons to read what they are for. Try turning on (icon will turn blue) the Show or Hide the Log icon at the bottom of the application. This feature is very useful for viewing the program in action.

▸ Create your first script. Type in say “hello world” and compile the script. You can click the hammer icon or push enter (the enter on your keyboard that is beside the numbers keypad) to compile the script. If the script turned blue and purple then the script editor did not find any errors. Press the play button and see what happens.

▸ If you had your speakers up you should have heard your computer talking to you. Try again if your sound was off.
